Mares Sling Gun Bandit

The Mares Bandit Speargun is an extremely popular gun for beginners to want to start spearfishing but do not want to spend a fortune on a top of the line gun. This allows you to get a good quality well priced gun to get you started then if you decide to upgrade later, you can. This lightweight aluminum barrel is easily maneuvered through the water yet still packs a punch even though it is classed as a shorter gun. Being only 55cm-75cm in length this gun is best used in shallow water chasing smaller reef fish due to the shooting range being only 2.2m - 3m which means that you need to get closer to your target than a longer gun.

Equipped with a 7mm finned stainless steel spear with a single flopper it is attached to the gun bungee using a monofilament line that prevents the spear from being lost. Holding the mono tight against the gun when loaded is the line release which drops the mono when the trigger is pulled to free the line. The single flopper is an extra piece of steel that loosely sits at the tip of the spear and is what holds the fish securely on the spear once it has penetrated through the fish. The flopper opens so the fish can not slide off. Connecting the spear to the gun is mono line which is extremely strong and does not tangle. The distance that you will get from this particular gun is approximately 2.2m - 3m depending on which size gun you purchase. The general rule is the spear will go four times the length on the gun.

The Bandit comes standard with a single 16mm rubber and as the Bandit has a double muzzle, you can purchase another 16mm rubber to add for extra power if you are hunting larger fish. This is due to them being thicker and will need more power to penetrate through them. Ther rubber has a dyneema bridle and gives the perfect amount of power that is needed to hit the maximum distance without the spear dropping off power. If you choose to, you can swap out the 16mm rubber for a thicker 18mm or 20mm which will give even more thrust. These have less flex and are harder to pull back, however loading a spear gun isnt about strength, it is all about technique.

There is a safety catch on the handle of the gun that sits just above the trigger mechanism, this is to be used carefully and not to be relied on. Only load your gun when you are ready to shoot, do not load then flick the safety on and get ready. If the safety catch fails it could be potentially very dangerous so only load the gun once you are ready to shoot. The extra large and very comfortable loading butt sits at the end of the handle and this is what you will place on your hip to load your gun.
